black fighter fish

The black fighter fish is one of the most common and popular forms of Betta magnifica. They are distinguished from other varieties of Betta by their deep velvety black colour and elegant fins. They are very popular among aquarium enthusiasts for their interesting looks and low maintenance. Also known as the Black Melano Betta, this fish is one of the conspicuous colors of the Betta splendens species. They are popular aquarium fish because of their velvety, ink-black colour.

Physical Appearance

The real Melano Betta is a dense black pigment that covers the body and fins, making it beautiful in appearance.  Other black fish may have a blue or purple color, but not the black fish variety. The black fish variety has a particular gene mutation that increases the quantity of black pigment cells called Melanophores. These come in a variety of fin shapes, such as Halfmoon, Crowntail, or Plakat. They usually reach a length of 2.5-3 inches.

Behaviour Patterns

They’re certainly the typical fiery personality and the Betta blood that Fighter Fish implies. Territorial males are extremely sensitive to other males and will inflate their gills upon seeing other males, indicating that they are larger. Their intelligence in recognizing their caretakers and owners also comes to the surface during feeding time.

Care and Environment

They require good conditions and temperature to maintain their shiny black colour and health. Water size requirements are a minimum of 5 gallons of tank size. They don’t work well in small crystal bowls because they do not have filtration and temperature control in this environment. With water conditions, they are tropical fish and do best in temperatures of between 75 degrees and 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

Types of Black Fighter Fish

Melano Black

It is Darkest, and most matte finnish also referred to as Black betta, which is the most prized type of fighter fish. They are like they are covered with black velvet.

Black Lace

Black lace bettas are less intense than Melanos, but they are very famous due to both males and females fertility. They have dark skin, and the edge of their fins is transparent and clear like lace, with a smoky look. When a flashlight is directed straight at their body, they have a very blue or green iridescent colour in their skin.

Black Orchid

This type of fish has a dark black body with a lining of steel blue or icy lilac colour radiating through the fins. The black crown tail and fins resemble the flowers of a colorful orchid.

Metallic Black

Shiny cells over a black under-color form the heavy layers on these types of fish. They are appealing and shiny as if made of metal. The fish’s appearance varies from a deep charcoal colour to shiny copper or silver under different light colours. They are easy to breed, due to their being heavyweight.

Solid Black

This cultivar is bred for Melano fertility problems. This is to take advantage of other genes that make the females fertile. Are usually very dark, but sometimes have a less specific velvety texture as seen only in true Melanos.

Feed Pattern

Use the good quality pellets for their diet. When selecting brands, be sure the first ingredient is whole protein like shrimp, krill, or whole fish meal. Frozen foods are healthy options as well as fresh, and supplement any of these foods with pellets, such as bloodworms, which these fish like. They will eat brine shrimp (protein) and daphnia (water fleas). This is excellent feed, will keep the digestive system good, and prevent bloating.

Foods to avoid

Fish flakes should be avoided as they have too many carbs and are indigestible to the Bettas. Some dry pellets expand when they are submerged in water; they soak up water. And when they are eaten by the fish, they can blow up the fish’s belly, leading to stomach issues such as distress. The pellets must be soaked in a small amount of water in the tank for 2 minutes before adding them to the tank. This makes it easier for them to consume and digest.

Conclusion

Black Fighter Fish are beautiful and special fish for any aquarium. These fish are very desirable to the fishkeeper because they are very active and interactive and have a very dark black color. By taking proper care, a good, healthy diet, and a suitable tank environment, owners can ensure their black betta lives for years to come.
