Terence Crawford is an American-born retired boxer. He has a career with a significant number of accomplishments and prominent titles. During his early career, he worked as an amateur boxer. He fought with Alejandro Sanabria, Andrey Klimov, Ricky Burns, Yuriorkis Gamboa, and Ray Beltrán under the lightweight division. Then he made his debut in the light welterweight division against Thomas Dulorme. Later, compete with Dierry Jean, Hank Lundy, Viktor Postol, John Molina Jr., and Felix Diaz. In 2017, he officially renounced his WBO belt to compete in the welterweight division and was titled as the mandatory challenger to WBO champion Jeff Horn.
At a very young age, Crawford joined a neighborhood gym. He got his training from Midge Minor, who was a father figure to him. During this time, he became familiar with wrestling through a family friend and gradually embraced his interest in wrestling. Subsequently, in 2001, he started formal training in wrestling under Brian “Bomac” McIntyre and Esaú Diéguez.
Terence Crawford subsequently received instruction from three trainers, each of whom had specialized training knowledge. For instance, Jamie Belt focused his attention on Crawford’s conditioning, strength, athleticism, control over the probability of injury, and muscle stabilization, with a focus on a gradual increase in training intensity. Brian McIntyre is responsible for strategy and tactics, and Esaú Diéguez puts all his attention on boxing techniques. Moreover, his training is a combination of modern techniques and traditional methods. A prominent part of his training emphasized the preparation of adaptability and practicing different hypothetical situations, including work on both southpaw and orthodox stances. Particularly, sparring is a part of his daily training; however, it is counterbalanced with recovery-oriented exercises like swimming. Along with his physical training, his nutritionist and coach prepare a specific diet plan that includes brown rice, fish, baked chicken, vegetables, and certain pastas.
Crawford has a very specific boxing style and a unique switching technique between a southpaw and orthodox stance. This technique allows him to land powerful, defensive strategies and unexpected punches. Along with this, he has a combination of moves, including weaves, slips, agile footwork, shoulder rolls, smooth head movements, and flicker jabs. One of the major factors in his training and achievements is his observation and control over aggregation. His tendency to observe well allows him to learn the timing, fighting, and attacking patterns of opponents during the early rounds. This directly allows him to quickly shift game dynamics in his favor.
Crawford is the only son of Debbie and Terence Sr. He has two sisters, Latisha and Shawntay. During the early 2000s, he got into a relationship with Alindra Person, and together they have six kids. However, he also has a child with another woman.
Along with his boxing career, he also has numerous partnerships with prominent industries. For instance, he started his partnership with premium hemp CBD brand Populum in 2019, with Prime Hydration in 2023, an agreement with Undisputed in 2024, and with Crown Coins Casino in 2025. He has also been involved in charitable work; for example, in 2013, he co-founded a nonprofit gym, B&B Sports Academy. In the same year, he also initiated an anti-bullying campaign, with a focus on bullying prevention techniques. During the year 2023, he participated in a basketball game dedicated to raising funds for the Lifedriven Foundation.
Additionally, his career has been marked by significant ups and downs. In 2008, an assailant shot him on the right side of his ear. At that time, he was driving and had enough courage to drive himself to the hospital and seek treatment. Less than two months after this attack, he participated in a fight against Michael Williams and won it. He has also been convicted of many legal issues, including property damage, theft of service, and trespassing. He also has multiple unpleasant police encounters and even went to jail.
In 2025, he officially announced his retirement in a video message and cited his age as a prominent reason. He retired with numerous honors and records, including an undefeated streak and major world championships. He won his first world championship against Ricky Burns in 2014, the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) light welterweight title after defeating Thomas Dulorme, and the undisputed welterweight belt against Errol Spence Jr., with several other significant achievements. He is the only boxer to have the Ring Magazine title and one of the few to win world titles at lightweight and super middleweight.
